Finding a way through the Mururaju glacier

Ascent of Nevado Mururaju

18,661 feet / 5,688 m

This elegant peak, located at the southern end of the Cordillera Blanca, is not well-known and therefore rarely climbed. To reach base camp, we walk up a wild and arid valley, discovering a mineral landscape of beautifully contrasted colours as we go along. High above our camp, herds of vicuñas (wild cameloids) and Andean deer roam. From the summit of Mururaju (meaning “glacier of various colors” in Quechua), you will be rewarded by unexpected views of the Cordillera Huayhuash and a wonderful panorama of the Cordillera Blanca, stretching away to the north. The rugged and desolate surroundings will inspire you with an exhilarating sense of adventure!
