The Viscacha trail

17 days / 16 nights

This circuit is a combination of three short treks (3 days, 4 days and 5 days), which allows you to discover several very different spots of the Cordillera Blanca. Between each ‘expedition’, we return to Huaraz, where you will enjoy the comforts of a real bed and a hot shower ! Although we will be crossing several high passes, the hiking is fairly moderate.

Highlights include :

• An introduction to rural Andean life in a traditional village

• A great diversity of ecosystems
• A visit to the famous ruins of Chavín

Viscacha (Lagidium peruanum)

Andean rodent, appreciated by the locals for its palatable meat

Local Belief :  Too much viscacha meat will make your hair turn white.

Rima rima (Krapfia weberbaueri) 

Local Belief : This beautiful flower is invested with magical powers. If a baby is reluctant to speak, all you have to do is strike the flower on his mouth three times. The only drawback is that when the child grows up, he may turn into a chatterbox.
